During this period of Covid, we may not have left our homes very much, but our minds certainly have been on the go. A lot us find our anxiety heightened. MC4ME will lead this retreat for the first time virtually so you can attend in your sweats or pj’s.

When Teaching Mindfulness, Remember Your "Little Audience"
Rita Benn reflects that when we teach about mindfulness to young children, it is helpful to remember the level of their thinking process, and how much they're grappling to understand their own minds and gain clarity.

Professional Development
At the beginning of August, over 175 staff from Troy Public Schools took time out of their vacation to attend a one day mindfulness training provided by MC4ME. There was so much interest that the initial one day training turned into two days and participants were still turned away. Kudos to Stephanie Snider, an elementary school social worker, has been the driving catalyst in bringing mindfulness more widely into the lives of teachers and students in the Troy School District.

IBME Collaboration
Planning has begun to bring IBme (Inward Bound Mindfulness Education) to teens in Michigan during the summer of 2019. Steve Norman, a mindfulness trainer who has attended several of our trainings in the past, is spearheading this effort. He is interested to locate teens who practice mindfulness and want to get involved in the planning of this teen retreat. He also needs assistance in finding a location. Please email him at [email protected] if you know of teens who may want to get involved or if you work with teens and want to help.

Yoga in Schools: A Research Review
by Sat Bir S. Khalsa and Bethany Butzer
These authors are timely in highlighting yoga's potential for developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills as mental health concerns are so pervasive. The authors suggest that yoga may have significant benefit for three key areas: 1) mind-body awareness, 2) self-regulation and 3) physical fitness. Forty-seven peer-reviewed studies published from 2000 on the use of school-based yoga programs in elementary school settings are included in this bibliometric analysis.
